Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," it added.
It said wreckage landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
